Angelus Chronodato Triple Date Oversize Chronograph

"We were low on fuel....we got hit..... But, thank God, I had my Angelus Chronograph!"  Did she believe it? Why not? It's a plausible story! Ha! Yep, this is an aviator's watch that has all the bells and whistles! I'm taking a deep breath as I post this entry. It is because this particular Angelus "Chronodato" is breath taking. Take a look at the "Zoom-In" photos for a good look. This chronograph is pristine! It even has a great looking champagne colored dial that has aged perfectly from its original bright silver to a nice evenly acquired patina. Angelus is a great Swiss company started in 1891 by the Stolz brothers in Le Locle, Switzerland. Their reputation for excellence and accuracy became legend and around the start of WWII they produced a now famous chronograph named the "Chronodato". It was a stellar timepiece and it earned a place in horological history for its unusual features. Not only is it a large, and handsome wristwatch, but complicated to boot! This is an aviator's watch that was used for timing approaches in IFR conditions when visibility was low and precision timing was a mandate. It has the triple complication of day of the week, date, and month, not to mention the standard chronograph features of recorded minutes and on-demand timing. There is a 45 minute register at the three o'clock position records elapsed time, a constant seconds at the nine o'clock position, and, of course, a central sweep second hand that may be started by pressing the upper pusher, then stopped (if the timed event is intermittent) and finally zeroed out by the lower pusher. There are also small buttons for immediately advancing the day, date, and month on the middle portion of the gold filled case (with stainless steel back for longevity). The movement is a caliber 217 made only by Angelus and rather unusual for its day, circa 1940. The case measures 46mm lug to lug by 38mm in diameter not including the crown. This is truly a man-sized pre-war chrono for the fella that wants something you don't see on every wrist. This is the watch that made Angelus' reputation world-wide and you can be a part of that history. Yes, it is an expensive watch but this is a scarce chrono of a nice size that we rarely see. Remember all of our timepieces come with our famous one year warranty for parts and labor so that you may buy with confidence! Don't miss this one it is definitely a keeper. It has a calendar function - day and month display. Hopefully you'll never need this watch to get ya home safe and sound but you could rely on it if ya had too!
