| Elgin Sterling Silver Officer's Watch | ||
![]() |
During the first World War "trench warfare" abounded and one of the problems for the soldiers was keeping their timepieces dry, and free from abrasion and shock. Watches that were damaged had to be taken back behind the frontlines to be repaired, which of course, caused great delay and loss of a vital tool for the co-ordination of maneuvers. As a bulwark against the abrasion issue, manufacturers issued a small nickel-plated brass cage that could be put over the glass crystal of a military watch, sort of like a catcher's mask for a watch. These were cheaply made but they did the job. A few watch companies then started to make the cage an integral part of the watch case. If you were an officer you wanted to stand head and shoulders above the average enlisted man so you wanted something better. In a few rare cases individual well-heeled officers commissioned custom made cases for their own personal military watches. One of the custom case makers, a man named Roland Fisher, produced a limited number (10 only) of the Solid Sterling Silver "Cage Case" you see on this 1913 Elgin. Over the 33 years we have been in business we have had six of these watches pass through our hands and we cherish each and every one we see. These watches are sometimes referred to as "Telephone Dial" watches due to their resemblance to the old manual rotary dials that we used to see on our phones. When you look straight down on the watch you can see each and every numeral on the porcelain dial through the circular openings that are arranged just like the chapters. The sterling case has three parts that become an integral whole and contain the Elgin, 6 size, 7 jewel, nickle three-quarter plate, damaskeened, movement. Our watchmakers have it running, keeping time, and setting like it did during WW1. The case measures 35mm in diameter (not including the crown), by 45mm lug to lug. It also displays the wonderful "Onion Crown" of the period. Its not often we get such a nice sterling silver gentleman's wristwatch and very rarely one with a military pedigree as nice as this one. As you can see in the "Zoom-In" photos it is in excellent condition and is complimented by a custom made "distressed', hand-stitched and oiled, military band. We have only one, so don't miss it!

| CWC Military Chronograph | ||
![]() |
The Cabot Watch Company, CWC, was started by Ray Mellor in 1972 but has since been bought by Silvermans in England which is a military equipment dealer based in London. They supply watches to the British Forces and we think these are pretty nice pieces. The first thing you notice about this CWC Chronograph is that the case is asymmetrical...that is it is beefier on the button-side to functionally reinforce the business side of the watch. This is not only practical, but it also makes for a very interesting timepiece. The 17 jewel movement is spotless and running like-new. The stainless steel case, which measures 46mm lug to lug, by 39mm in diameter (not including the crown) is nicely finished with a matte surface for less reflection in the field. The back of the case bears the British Broad Arrow designation marking it as a British Military Contract piece. You can also see this symbol on the matte black dial just below the center. All of the numerals as well as the hands are still luminous and easy to read as are the subsidiary seconds bit and the accumulated minutes sub dial.The case back is a screw-down that seals the watch against dust and moisture. As an added bonus we have equipped this killer chrono with a custom, handmade, stitched and distressed band that has the perfect look. If you are jonesing for a really nice manual-wind military chrono that you can wear everyday, this may be the one for you. It is really special! Remember all of our timepieces come with our famous one year warranty for parts and labor so that you may buy with confidence.

| Omega Pocket Watch Conversion | ||
![]() |
"Look into my eyes. You want this watch....you really want it!" This one is really big! It is 51mm in diameter - not including the crown, by 61mm lug to lug. This is an early Omega pocket watch that has been converted for use on the wrist, executed in today's style of larger watches, it fits right in. If you are one of those gentlemen who need, or desire, a really big watch then this may be the one for you. It is a seven jewel, military style that our master watchmakers have running, winding and keeping time like the day it came from Switzerland circa 1912 just in time for WWI. Not only is it a good timekeeper, and as clean as a whistle, but the dial is one of the most attractive styles we have seen on one of these conversions. The seconds bit revolves once a minute in the 9 o'clock position and provides some interesting eye appeal. The stark contrast between the matte black dial background and the luminous numerals and hands is dramatic. This is also aided by the red 25 to 300, 1/5 of a second markings, just outside of the chapter ring. This look is capped off perfectly by the skeletonized hands. The large rilled winding crown makes it easy to set and wind and the silver nickle case proudly displays the Omega logo on the inner back lid. All-in-all this is a very handsome watch that can grace your wrist if you are the lucky customer who goes home with this beautiful Omega on his wrist. We have only one, so don't hesitate! As always, we here at Father Time Antiques will warranty this watch for a full year for parts and labor so that you may buy with confidence.

| Elgin Deluxe | ||
![]() |
If you visit us here at Father Time you know that we think very highly of Elgin, not only because of our proximity to Elgin (the town), or because we have known many of the factory workers, but because they made a fine product at a reasonable price with great looks. If you have always wanted a vintage watch and have been looking for a reliable entry level timepiece that will give decades of excellent service then consider this really great looking rectangular Elgin. It is a gentleman's watch but would also look good on a lady. The movement is a 17 jewel "Deluxe" model, 15/o size, grade 537, that winds, sets, and keeps time like the day it left the factory in 1939. The case is yellow gold filled and measures 21mm wide by 37mm long. In our opinion what makes it special is the Roman Numeral dial. We have never had another like it. Not only are the Roman Numerals interesting, they are subtle also. The dial's minute track is just slightly darker than the dial and this contrast is very elegant. Additionally the rectangular seconds bit echos the shape of the case and has its own seconds track that mimics the larger minute track. When you add in the pencil thin hands it makes for a great look. Makes sure you look at the "Zoom In" photos of the 17 jewel, 3/4 plate movement, circa 1939...it is clean as a whistle and running like the proverbial top. Here is a great looking vintage watch that is in fully restored condition and warrantied for a year for less than a grand.

| Omega 18k Pink Gold Cosmic | ||
![]() |
Omega is a wonderful manufacturer that we esteem and I think you will as well once you clap your peepers on this killer Moon Phase, Cosmic, 18k solid rose gold, triple complicated. Don't think about it too hard. You probably won't ever see one of these ....in this condition....again! We were very fortunate to grab this one from a South American who was vacationing in Florida. The size of the watch on his wrist grabbed our attention and we were able to convince him to part with it. Yes, its an oversize Omega that was made specifically for the South American Market. We didn't get to see these larger sizes here in America unless it was personally brought home by a traveler or an ex-pat. The case measures 37mm in diameter without the crown by 45mm lug to lug. It is just plain handsome! The moon phase is executed in the trademark Omega colors of amber and yellow. The silvered dial is in fantastic condition and displays the days of the week and the month in Spanish which makes perfect sense when you know its heritage. The date is indicated by another hand that points to the date on the dial perimeter. In the vintage watch world its all about condition and this phenomenal complicated is in fantastic condition. Not only is the solid rose gold case been lovingly cared for but it is 18k to boot! When you hold this one in your hand you can't help but fall in love. Even our store manager Chuck could hardly turn his head away...and I must admit...I cast a glace at it everytime I pass. The movement is as nice as the silvered dial, rose gold case, and pink gold hands. Make sure you look at the "Zoom-In" photos to see what we can only tell you about here.You can see the triangular 18k mark on the case back, insuring purity. Make sure you notice the rose gold plating on the movement that Omega uses to insure resistance to corrosion for a hundred years. Also notice that they used a 17 jewel manual movement with a "kif" spring in the balance end-stone for shock resistance. This triple complicated could be the pride of your collection. We have never had a nicer one in this larger size so don't hesitate.
